Mongolia

Richtig schlimm. Aber mal ehrlich ? Kann man die Mongolische Gastfreundschaft ablehnen ? Nee, das macht man nicht ...

TransSib (TransSibirischeEisenbahn)

ok, my last message (was in German) was from the City of Moscow and you may think about where i am heading next.
Well, did i told you that in Moscow is not only the Kremlin but that there are also at least five train stations going in every possible direction, from St. Petersburg and Helsinki, to Berlin and Warschaw, Budapest and Kiew, Zentral Asia and sibiria as well as Beijing and the mongolei. Moment, Zentral Asia ? That is a place where i always wanna to be !
Kigistan and Usbekistan, with remote Mountian areas and icy lakes, acident Palaces from the old Silkroad und wonderful decorated mosques. But wait, icy lakes? winter, snow, cold ? that shocks me and i just realized that this is not the time of the year to go there.

But Asia is the place to be, so i took a train to Ulan-Bator with is a 4 day Trainride better known as Trans-Sibiria, via the Ural Mountians through the endless Sibirian Berchtree plains, countinueing to Irkutsk, rounding blue Lake Baikal and finally crossing the Mongolian Steppe to UB, capital of Mongolia. 100EUR for traveling half the World, 101 hours rat, rat, rat in an sleeper train drinking tee and eating instand noodles.

How it was? Well, absolut nice. Outside frozen Rivers and Lakes and the snowcapped Sibirian Forests passing in front of the window, inside its nice and warm and you either sleep, read (i finished three books) or you drink Tee or Vodka. Every 4 hours or so the train makes a stop and you go outside to buy some food or drinks from the babuschkas (the russian grandmother) hustling and bustling on the side of the train or you just go for a walk or a fresh breeze of cold air.

Actually Sibiria looks really nice, specially Lake Baikal - endless Forests and wilderness which just only sometimes showes signs of human activity - small villages, dirt roads or every couple hundert kilometers a town. So i am kind of sorry that i just passes by, seeing the world from a trainwindow. I would love to hike here discover the beautyfull landscape - but its just tooooo cold!
But i really wanna come back, sommertimes - yea i know i say that all the time, but here i really wanna do it .... we'll see ;-)

Moskau (deutsch)

Not macht echt sehr erfinderisch.

St. Petersburg, Russia

St. Petersburg. There i am. In Russia. I can't believe it myself. First Impression : totally different and somehow strange. I really left Europe, its Russia. Everthing is a bit divided, there are a lot of rich people around, but the ordinary houses and people looking rather poor for normal standards. All Cafes and Restaurants are posh but to expensive for the normal folk and find a ceap eat is somehow difficult. Acommindation is extreme expensive but travelling half the world on russian railways is dirtcheap.

Whatever, i arrived on early sunday morning with the nigthbus from riga and hopped direct on an the metro to CC St. Petersburg north. Eventually i found that place and the church untill somebody told me : "Calvary? oh they meet sometimes here as well" ...hmmm. Nice. The other nice thing was that it keept raining during my whole stay. In a huge city which spread over serveral islands its NOT nice to walk all day in rain. But the City is beautiful ! There are a mass of wonderful buildings all over the City, with the magnificent Hermitage, the St Peter and Paul Castle, all this huge churches - the city is shining from Gold on churchtowers, doors, decorations and even the covers of streetlights ! Just come up with the "goldenes Dacherl" in Innsbruck ;-)
But the highlight for sure was then the Hermitage, one of the greatest Art collections in the palace of the Tsars ! With an huge collection of Picasso, Rubens, Gaudin (this work shy guy who lived in polynesia - sympatic to me :-)and serveras other that i just forget, as well as Egyptian, asian, european antics, Paintings from the middle ages, Items, weapons, coins, mobilar, even more paintings, together with an amazing building and old rooms from the tsars, everywhere covered with gold ect ect. I walked around the building for 4 hours, saw then the window from the other side and realizied that is was just the inner court - in fact it was just the half of the building.
So, you see it was great. But the greatest thing was : it was free for students. Well, you think im not a student? .... tztztz

Riga, Latvia

Lithuania

12 hours by train are between Warzawa and Vilinius in Lithuania. That means you boarding the train in a dark morning and you getting off in the dark, course that little country is a bit more in the north and its getting later in the year ... so at 5pm its dark already. Another thing that i regionize about this north thing is that is was really cold. Really Cold. All of that many potholes where covered with Ice and the temperature was about minus 5 degrees and i not speak about the night, daytime, bright sunshine!
Yea, sure i just had an shirt and a beenie but no jacket nor lange unterhosen (long underwear) so i remember the first days as really cold. But there as well many second hand stores here, so im ok.

Vilinius is nice but very quite. There not many Tourists here, no loud music, not many drunken people but everything is really poshed up, the old Town i dotted with beautyful cafes (actually i saw really nice cafes, kinda sad that i had so little help and therefore so little time in Munich) and with many fine restaurants - but no ceap fastfood joints or kepab huts. Everthing is totally clean, almost all buildings are renovated and the most people showing up on the streets with clothes that i never will posess. Man, somehow i feelt lost. But i had nice fellow travelers at my hostel. Did even a seightseeing tour out of town to a castle, sitting on a island in a lake. yaaa was nice ..... but really cold. Even with my new jacket.

Actually i have been a long time here. There was a cheap and nice hostel here (on reason to stay longer) and an visa agency right next to the train station. Sure, looking over their advertisement at the window it gave me some new ideas. So i let hear from me. see ya.
